4 Months

Olivia is 4 months old today!  Unbelievable.  We had her 4 month well child check-up on Monday.  She had her second round of immunizations (which she really didn't appreciate) and we were told we could start her on rice cereal, see how it goes, and then work our way up to fruit and veggie baby foods.  The pictures are from tonight--our first venture into eating with a spoon went very well, I'd say.  She was very interested in the spoon, and despite being a little cranky today, perked up and had a great time with it.  I'm not sure how much she actually swallowed but she sure managed to cover herself in it.   Here are her stats from her appointment:

Weight:  11 lbs 13.5 oz
Height:  23.35 in
Head Circ:  15.59 in

All three were still just under the 25th percentile.  Here are some other things that have been going on with Miss O lately:
  • She's quite the drama queen.  If you're slow to get her bottle ready, or stick her paci back in her mouth when she calls, you are in BIG trouble.  She's especially dramatic about tummy time--she gets frustrated with it pretty quickly, starts to cry, and as soon as you turn her over and/or pick her up, she really lets you have it.  She'll scream at you for a good 5-10 more minutes, just to make sure you know exactly how unhappy she was about being on her tummy.  She obviously gets this temper from her daddy!  ;-)
  • She's super vocal lately, even beyond the dramatic cries.  She oos, and goos, ohs, aahs and unn guhhs all the time.  We say "hi" to her a lot, and she makes a sound that's very close to a hi herself.
  • Smile big at her, and if she's in a decent mood, you'll get a big ole wide mouth gummy grin right back.
  • I finally figured out a couple of weeks ago what all the crying over bottles was about. Turns out, it was an alternating problem between:  1. serious gas pains, and 2. the bottle nipples we were using were occasionally getting clogged a few minutes into her feeding, so nothing was coming out.  The cry sounded the same, so it made it harder to figure out that there might be two causes.  Anyway, lots of Mylicon and a bottle switch have made feeding a lot easier at our house.
  • I've finally started to get an occasional "Oh, she looks just like her mommy!" comment.  This was nonexistent before, and most people still thinks she looks more like Colin, but at least she's showing some resemblance to me now.
  • Loves, loves, loves bath time.  Always has enjoyed it, but now she'll talk and splash around big time.
